Privacy policy
Last updated: 2026-04-24
Summary (plain English)
We collect almost nothing about you. No third-party cookies, no ad trackers, no personal profiling. Our analytics (Matomo, self-hosted in the EU) runs without cookies — it counts pageviews and general device type, nothing more. If you email us, we hold your email address only to reply.
Data controller
Costa Blanca Today (editorial), Alicante, Spain. Privacy inquiries: privacy@costablanca.today.
What we collect
- Server access logs
- IP address, requested URL, timestamp, user-agent, referrer. Retained for up to 30 days for operational and security purposes (rate limiting, abuse detection). Stored on our EU-based server, not shared with third parties.
- Analytics (Matomo, cookieless)
- Anonymised pageview counts, country (from IP, truncated to the last two octets), browser type, referrer category, and an approximate visit duration. No cookies are set for analytics. Matomo is self-hosted in the EU; data is not shared with any third party.
- Email correspondence
- If you write to us, we keep your message and address for the time needed to respond and for up to 12 months thereafter for correction-policy traceability.
What we don't collect
- No Google Analytics or Facebook Pixel.
- No third-party ad networks or cross-site tracking.
- No behavioural profiling or automated decision-making.
- No newsletter signup (and therefore no marketing email list).
- No user accounts, therefore no passwords or personal profiles.
Cookies
The site does not set tracking cookies. A single
theme cookie is set locally in your browser if you use
the dark-mode toggle (when we add one) — it never leaves your
device and is not readable by any third party.
Third-party data surfaced on the site
We consume public APIs (AEMET, DGT, Ministerio para la Transición Ecológica, 112 CV) to render weather, traffic, fuel and alert data. These APIs do not receive any visitor data — the fetches happen from our server, not your browser. See data sources for the full list.
All fonts are self-hosted on our server — no request to Google Fonts or any other third-party font CDN. Your IP address is not shared with any party outside the site you're visiting.
Your GDPR rights
As a visitor from the EU/EEA you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection over any personal data we hold. Because we collect so little, most of these requests resolve to "we have no personal data about you".
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@costablanca.today with enough information for us to identify any relevant data (usually your email address, if you've written to us). We respond within 30 days.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. In Spain, that's the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos.
