Benferri rescues urbanisation abandoned since 2006 to build 370 homes and grow by 44%
The small Vega Baja municipality recovers a town planning project paralysed twenty years ago next to the rambla de Abanilla, despite requiring million-euro investment.
Benferri, one of the smallest municipalities in the Vega Baja, has decided to rescue an urbanisation abandoned since 2006 with capacity for 370 homes. The project, located in the furthest corner of the municipal district next to the rambla de Abanilla, would increase the town’s population by 44%.
The location presents significant challenges: it is situated in the agricultural interior of the region, next to one of the most dangerous ramblas in the Comunitat Valenciana. Despite this, the Ayuntamiento considers the operation profitable.
Rescuing the project will require a million-euro investment to rehabilitate the infrastructure and guarantee safety against possible flooding. The initiative seeks to reactivate demographic growth in this small town in the Alicante interior.
The case recalls other town planning projects rescued in the province following the property market standstill, although the proximity to flood-risk zones adds complexity to the development.
