DGT fines drivers up to 200 euros for dirty, cracked windscreens or mobile phone holders

The Dirección General de Tráfico can sanction drivers who travel with their windscreen in poor condition, with fines reaching 200 euros.

The Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT) monitors the condition of vehicle windscreens and can impose fines of up to 200 euros on those who fail to maintain them in optimal condition.

Amongst the punishable offences are driving with a dirty windscreen that limits visibility, with cracks or breaks that compromise safety, or with objects that obstruct the driver’s field of vision.

Poorly positioned mobile phone holders can also be grounds for a fine if they interfere with the driver’s vision. The DGT considers that keeping the windscreen in good condition is essential to guarantee road safety.

The authorities remind drivers of the importance of carrying out regular checks and keeping the front windscreen clean to avoid fines and, above all, to reduce the risk of accidents.
