Veterinary advice for travelling with pets this summer
With the holiday season just around the corner, veterinarians offer key recommendations for including pets in summer travel plans.
The arrival of summer prompts thousands of families to organise their holidays, and many choose to include their companion animals in their getaway plans.
According to veterinary experts, before setting off on a journey it is essential to prepare the necessary documentation, update vaccinations and ensure that the pet has a microchip and identification.
They also recommend planning regular stops on long journeys, carrying fresh water and avoiding leaving the animal alone in the vehicle, especially in the high summer temperatures.
Other considerations include checking pet admission policies at accommodation and transport providers, as well as carrying a basic first aid kit for any eventualities during the trip.
