The first major night of the Hogueras de Alicante made clear the festive enthusiasm of residents and visitors during the early hours of Sunday morning.
The city’s streets filled with people enjoying the music, open-air dances and the characteristic atmosphere of these traditional festivities. The barracas and ‘ratoneras’ welcomed thousands of foguerers and visitors who celebrated into the early hours of the morning.
The Hogueras, which are held in honour of Saint John, combine artistic monuments with an intensive programme of festive activities. This first major night marks the beginning of the most intense period of celebrations that will culminate with the traditional cremà.
The turnout exceeded expectations, consolidating the Hogueras as one of the main festivities of the Comunitat Valenciana and an important tourist attraction for the city of Alicante.
