San Miguel de Salinas residents protest against health centre collapse amid tourism boom
Hundreds of residents demonstrated on Wednesday outside the health centre to demand its expansion, overwhelmed by the massive construction of tourist housing.
Hundreds of residents of San Miguel de Salinas gathered on Wednesday outside the local health centre to protest against the saturation of the healthcare service. The demonstrators are demanding the Generalitat Valenciana urgently expand the facilities.
The trigger for the protest is the boom in construction of tourist housing in the municipality, which has multiplied the floating population without the health infrastructure growing at the same pace. The current health centre cannot cope with the growing demand.
Residents report long waits to secure an appointment and the impossibility of accessing basic services normally. The situation particularly affects the permanent population, who see their healthcare provision diminished.
The citizen mobilisation seeks to pressure the regional authorities to act immediately and provide the municipality with health resources in line with its demographic growth.
