Alicante brings forward pre-eclampsia screening for pregnant women ahead of nationwide rollout
Hospital General de Alicante is already carrying out tests to detect pre-eclampsia during the first trimester of pregnancy, pre-empting the recent national approval by the Ministry of Health.
The province of Alicante has got ahead of the National Health System’s service portfolio by implementing pre-eclampsia screening for pregnant women. The Ministry of Health has just approved the measure for gradual rollout across all autonomous communities during the first trimester of pregnancy.
Hospital General de Alicante had already been carrying out these detection tests before ministerial approval, positioning itself as a pioneer in preventing serious pregnancy complications. Pre-eclampsia is a condition that can lead to foetal death and other maternal complications.
This early screening allows high-risk pregnancies to be identified and preventive measures to be applied. Detection during the first trimester is crucial for improving obstetric outcomes and reducing perinatal mortality associated with this condition.
