The mega cruise ship Harmony of the Seas has made its debut at the port of Alicante coinciding with the Hogueras de San Juan festivities, bringing aboard 5,479 passengers, many of them from the United States.
The tourists, who were unaware of the celebration, came across the monumental hogueras installed throughout the city and expressed their astonishment at this ephemeral art so characteristic of the Alicante festival.
The majority of visitors expressed their admiration, declaring that the constructions are “incredible”, highlighting the creativity and colour of the monuments adorning the streets during these days.
The coincidence of the cruise ship’s docking with the Hogueras de San Juan represents a unique opportunity to promote the festival amongst international tourism, especially American tourists, who are typically unfamiliar with this local tradition.
