Man who killed his ex-partner's cat through vicarious violence arrested in Torrevieja
The National Police have arrested an individual in Torrevieja who had been convicted of vicarious violence after killing his ex-partner's cat, in order to execute the accepted deportation sentence.
The National Police have arrested a man in Torrevieja who had accepted a deportation sentence to his country of origin for a crime of vicarious violence. The accused killed his ex-partner’s cat in an act considered vicarious violence, a form of abuse that seeks to harm the victim through third parties or loved ones.
Following his conviction, the man had accepted the penalty of expulsion from Spanish territory. However, authorities proceeded with his arrest to make the deportation order effective.
The case underscores the seriousness of vicarious violence, legally recognised as an instrument of control and psychological harm towards victims of gender-based violence. The arrest was carried out without incident and the individual will be transferred to his country of origin in accordance with the sentence handed down.
