28% of European tourists plan to change travel dates to avoid heatwaves
Data from the European Commission reveal that nearly three out of ten European tourists are considering changing their holiday dates to avoid overcrowding and high temperatures.
The European Travel Commission revealed last year that 28% of residents in the main European tourist-generating countries are considering changing their travel months over the next two years. The main reasons include avoiding tourist overcrowding, reducing costs and escaping heatwaves.
This change in behaviour could transform both urban and rural areas, redistributing tourist flows traditionally concentrated in summer. Coastal destinations such as Costa Blanca could experience a reduction in seasonal concentration of tourism.
The trend reflects growing concern about climate change and its effects on holiday preferences, forcing the sector to adapt to new demand patterns. Extreme temperatures are redrawing the European tourism map.
