Elche commemorates the 25th anniversary of the declaration of the Misteri d'Elx as World Heritage with an institutional ceremony at the Museum of La Festa.
Elche celebrated on Monday the 25th anniversary of the declaration of the Misteri d’Elx as World Heritage by Unesco. The institutional ceremony took place at the Museum of La Festa, where the Board of the Misteri d’Elx emphasised the continued relevance of this unique tradition.
The Board highlighted that La Festa represents a singular expression of faith, culture, music, tradition and collective commitment that remains alive in the city of Elche. This celebration underscores the cultural and historical importance of the Misteri d’Elx for the local community.
The Misteri d’Elx is a mediaeval sacred-lyrical drama performed every year at the Basilica of Santa María during the Assumption festivities. Its recognition by Unesco in 2001 consolidated its relevance as a cultural manifestation of exceptional universal value.
