PP in Elche tables motion on corruption to put PSOE on the spot
The Popular Party will replicate the strategy used by the tripartite coalition in 2016, when they approved an institutional declaration against corruption that forced the PP to vote in favour.
The Popular Party of Elche has decided to turn the tables on the left by tabling a motion on corruption in an attempt to put the PSOE in a tight spot, replicating a tactic they themselves suffered a decade ago.
In February 2016, Elche council approved an institutional declaration against corruption promoted by the tripartite coalition formed by PSOE, Compromís and the Partido de Elche of Jesús Ruiz Pareja. The initiative came after months of scandals affecting the PP, and forced the current mayor Pablo Ruz, then in opposition, to vote in favour.
Now, with the PP in municipal government, the Popular Party seeks to reverse the situation by using the same type of motion to embarrass the PSOE, focusing on corruption matters affecting socialist ranks.
The initiative represents a political role reversal at Elche council, where the tables have turned since that 2016 vote.
