Elche launched its traditional Rocío pilgrimage this Friday afternoon, a religious and festive celebration that brings together numerous devotees of the Blanca Paloma.
The Elche pilgrimage forms part of the city’s most deeply rooted traditions, in which pilgrims make their way in honour of the Virgen del Rocío, following in the footsteps of the Andalusian brotherhoods.
Participants travel through the streets of Elche dressed in typical Rocío attire, accompanied by decorated carts, music and songs dedicated to the Virgin.
This celebration brings together hundreds of faithful followers and residents each year who take part in the festive and religious events organised by the local Rocío brotherhood.
