Elche bans bonfires and street drinking on its beaches during the night of San Juan
Elche Council establishes restrictions for the celebration of San Juan on its beaches, banning bonfires and alcohol consumption.
Elche Council has established a series of prohibitions to regulate access to its beaches during the night of 23rd to 24th June, when the traditional night of San Juan is celebrated.
Amongst the main restrictions are a total ban on lighting bonfires on the sand, as well as the practice of street drinking (botellón). These measures seek to guarantee the safety of attendees and the preservation of the coastline.
The night of San Juan, known as the longest of the year, has traditionally been steeped in legends of spells and witches. However, local authorities are prioritising safety and public order during these celebrations.
The restrictions affect all beaches in the municipality of Elche and will be in force during the early hours of the festivities.
