The last Marquis of Méndez Núñez, Eduardo Suárez-Rivero y Méndez Núñez, has died in Miami at the age of 94. He was the last direct descendant of Admiral Casto Méndez Núñez, the historic naval officer who gave his name to the iconic Rambla in Alicante.
Eduardo lived in the American city with his wife Guadalupe Mirella Scaparone and their five children. Throughout his life he enjoyed a successful professional career as a chemist.
With his passing, the family line of the illustrious admiral comes to an end, though his legacy remains present in one of the main thoroughfares of central Alicante. La Rambla de Méndez Núñez is one of the city’s busiest and most iconic promenades.
