Remains of man murdered in 1993 found in Dénia after sister's confession
The Guardia Civil has located in Dénia the remains of a man who disappeared in 1993 after his sister confessed to the crime upon learning it was time-barred.
The Guardia Civil has recovered in Dénia the remains of a man who was murdered in 1993, more than three decades after his disappearance. The discovery came following a confession by the victim’s sister, who revealed the facts after learning that the crime had become legally time-barred.
According to investigations, the woman admitted her involvement in the homicide once she knew she could not be prosecuted for the offence due to the passage of time. The confession enabled officers to locate the place where the remains had been hidden.
The case had remained unsolved for more than 30 years, and the family had reported the disappearance at the time. Now, although the crime is time-barred under criminal law, the discovery of the remains represents the closure of an investigation that had yielded no results for decades.
Authorities are continuing with proceedings to clarify all the details of the incident that occurred more than three decades ago in the Marina Alta town.
