Education's offer of 75 euros gross fails to call off teachers' strike in Alicante
The Education minister proposes a salary increase of 75 euros gross per month from 2027, but unions reject the offer and maintain the indefinite strike called for Monday.
The Education minister, Carmen Ortí, met with unions on Thursday in an attempt to prevent the indefinite teachers’ strike scheduled for next Monday. The main proposal on the table was a salary increase of 75 euros gross per month that would not come into force until 2027.
The offer has not convinced union representatives, who have rejected the proposal and are maintaining the strike call. Teachers are demanding more significant pay rises on a more immediate timescale.
The indefinite strike threatens to affect the operation of schools in the province of Alicante from next week. Negotiations between the education administration and the unions continue without reaching an agreement that meets teachers’ demands.
