The UMH in Elche participates in the Campus Rural programme against depopulation
The Universidad Miguel Hernández is joining the Campus Rural programme of the Ministry so that students can carry out placements in small municipalities at risk of depopulation.
The Universidad Miguel Hernández in Elche is participating this year in the Campus Rural programme, an initiative by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge designed to combat depopulation in rural areas.
The programme allows university students to carry out their academic placements in small municipalities or those at risk of depopulation, contributing to the development of these areas whilst gaining professional experience.
The initiative seeks to connect university talent with the needs of España vaciada (emptied Spain), offering practical training opportunities in rural environments and encouraging qualified professionals to put down roots in these areas.
The UMH is thus joining other academic institutions committed to linking higher education with the country’s demographic challenges, particularly relevant in a province such as Alicante which combines densely populated coastal areas with inland regions experiencing population decline.
