First flamingo chicks hatch in La Mata and Torrevieja Natural Park
Common flamingos have begun breeding in the lagoons of La Mata and Torrevieja, where the first chicks have already hatched after the birds constructed mud nests.
The Natural Park of the Lagoons of La Mata and Torrevieja is once again witness to the natural spectacle of common flamingo breeding. The first chicks have already hatched in this environmental jewel of the Vega Baja.
The flamingos construct their characteristic mound-shaped mud nests, where they lay a single egg. This reproductive behaviour turns the protected area into a scene worthy of the finest nature documentaries.
The presence of these birds and their successful reproduction confirms the importance of the natural park as a refuge for protected species. The lagoons offer ideal conditions for the flamingos to complete their reproductive cycle in a unique environment in the province of Alicante.
