New demonstration in Alicante to demand removal of Parque del Mar railway tracks
Residents and community groups demonstrated in Alicante on Thursday to demand the elimination of the railway network on the southern coast, one month after the previous protest.
The city of Alicante hosted another public demonstration on Thursday demanding the removal of the railway tracks that run through Parque del Mar on the southern coast. The protest took place one month after the previous gathering, held on 7th May.
The longstanding demand for the railway network to be placed underground or removed altogether seeks to reclaim public spaces and improve the connection between the city centre and the sea. Demonstrators are calling for greater commitment from the authorities to resolve this outstanding urban planning issue.
This mobilisation reflects residents’ dissatisfaction with an infrastructure considered a physical and visual barrier that affects the urban development of Alicante’s seafront.
