Joan Castejón sculpture removed due to Elche Central Market works
The sculpture dedicated to Joan Castejón has been temporarily removed from its location in front of Elche Central Market due to renovation works at the building.
Elche town council has proceeded to remove the sculpture of the historic merchant Joan Castejón, located near the Central Market, due to refurbishment works being carried out at the building.
The sculptural piece, which honours the figure of this emblematic character of Elche commerce, has been temporarily relocated to avoid possible damage during the market’s rehabilitation works.
The Central Market works form part of a modernisation project for the commercial space, a key infrastructure for the city’s supply and commercial life. Once the works are completed, the sculpture will be reinstalled in its original location.
Municipal authorities have assured that the piece will be properly safeguarded until its definitive relocation.
