Joan Castejón sculpture temporarily removed due to works at Elche's Mercado Central
Refurbishment works in the area surrounding the Mercado Central have required the removal of the sculpture of former mayor Joan Castejón located in the zone.
Refurbishment works in the area surrounding Elche’s Mercado Central have obliged the Ayuntamiento to temporarily remove the sculpture dedicated to former mayor Joan Castejón.
The sculptural piece is located in the zone affected by improvement works around the emblematic Elche market, making it necessary to relocate it to prevent damage during the works.
The statue will be repositioned once the refurbishment works are completed. The article also mentions that in 2006, coinciding with the fifth anniversary of the declaration of the Misteri d’Elx as a World Heritage Site, the Lady of Elche arrived in the city on temporary loan.
The works at the Mercado Central form part of a wider project to improve and modernise the commercial area of Elche’s historic centre.
