A geological route in Elche uncovers the stone of the Lady
Dozens of people took part in a Geoday activity to learn about the geological origin of Spain's most famous Iberian sculpture.
On Sunday morning, groups of all ages gathered at the Torre dels Vaïllos in Elche to take part in a geological route organised for Geoday. The activity aimed to showcase the limestone used to sculpt the Dama de Elche.
Participants walked around the Vinalopó river area, where the quarry from which the iconic Iberian sculpture’s material originates is located. Experts explained the geological characteristics of the stone and its historical importance.
The initiative forms part of Geoday celebrations, a day dedicated to promoting geology and natural heritage. The event allowed Elche residents to discover a lesser-known aspect of their most internationally recognised symbol.
