UNESCO confirms certainty of future tsunamis in the Mediterranean
UNESCO warns that a tsunami occurring in the Mediterranean is inevitable, though without determining exactly when or where.
UNESCO has confirmed that there is absolute certainty that a tsunami will occur in the Mediterranean Sea at some point in the future, according to its monitoring and alert systems.
Global data indicates that approximately seven tsunamis are recorded worldwide each year, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre. The Mediterranean, whilst less active than other zones, is not exempt from this risk.
The warning does not specify a concrete date or location for the possible event, but underscores the importance of maintaining active prevention and early warning systems on Mediterranean coasts, including the Spanish coast.
Experts stress that the Alicante coast, like the entire Mediterranean coast, must be prepared for possible exceptional natural phenomena, although historically the region has experienced few events of this type.
