Residents complain of lack of consensus over installation of a hoguera in Alicante
A readers' letter questions the installation of a hoguera without an administrative file, neighbourhood consensus or safety guarantees.
A reader has sent a letter to the newspaper questioning the process for installing a hoguera in a neighbourhood in Alicante, in the run-up to the forthcoming Hogueras de San Juan festivities.
According to the letter, the hoguera was allegedly authorised without a known administrative file, without the consensus of neighbourhood residents and without any public safety guarantees being provided.
The complaint reflects the concern of some residents about the lack of public participation in decisions that directly affect neighbourhood life during the festive celebrations.
The Hogueras de San Juan in Alicante are one of the city’s most important festivals, but this type of controversy highlights occasional tensions between festive tradition and residents’ concerns about organisation and safety.
