Rice competition opens the countdown to Alicante's Hogueras
The Federació de Fogueres held the traditional Rice Competition at Parque Lo Morant on Sunday, kicking off the preliminary events for the Hogueras de San Juan.
Alicante’s Hogueras have officially started their countdown with the traditional Rice Competition of the Fogueres de Sant Joan, held this Sunday at Parque Lo Morant.
The event, organised by the Federació de Fogueres, marks the beginning of the preliminary activities leading up to the main Saint John’s festivities, which attract thousands of visitors to the city each year.
The competition brings together the foguera commissions for a festive day where they compete by cooking different varieties of rice, one of the most emblematic dishes of the local cuisine.
This gastronomic event is part of the tradition leading up to the Hogueras and serves to warm up the engines ahead of the June celebrations, turning the park into the epicentre of Alicante’s foguera culture.
