Toy industry association requests protection for the 'Muñeca de Onil' as a Geographical Indication
The Spanish Association of Toy Manufacturers is asking the Generalitat Valenciana to declare the 'Muñeca de Onil' as a Protected Geographical Indication.
The Spanish Association of Toy Manufacturers (AEFJ) has formally submitted an application to the Regional Ministry of Innovation, Industry, Trade and Tourism for the “Muñeca de Onil” to be declared a Protected Geographical Indication.
Onil, a town in Alicante province with a long toy-making tradition, is historically recognised for the artisanal manufacture of dolls. This protected designation would seek to safeguard and promote the industrial and cultural heritage of the area.
The Protected Geographical Indication would link the quality and characteristics of the product to its specific geographical origin, granting recognition and legal protection to dolls manufactured in this municipality.
If approved, the “Muñeca de Onil” would join other traditional Alicante products with geographical protection, reinforcing the identity and added value of the local toy industry.
