Evening surgeries in Valencian hospitals operating 'at bare minimum' after suspension of overtime
Operating theatres in the Comunidad Valenciana are barely performing afternoon operations since Health suspended the paid overtime programme between September and December.
Surgical activity in the evenings at Valencian hospitals is at minimum levels following the suspension of the módulos or ‘peonadas’ programme by the Conselleria de Sanidad. This system allowed healthcare staff to carry out paid overtime to reduce waiting lists.
Between September and December, operating theatres cancelled their afternoon activity. Currently, only complex cases rejected by private healthcare and certain specific medical specialities are being operated on.
The situation affects hospital centres across the entire region, including those in the province of Alicante, where patients may experience additional delays for non-urgent operations. The measure responds to the regional administration’s decision to suspend this extraordinary remuneration mechanism for staff.
